Hey guys! Here is a list of the rants that I free wrote about in class the other day!
- I can't stand when I run into old friends from high
school and they act like they don't even know me or they fake a smile and
run along. It just irritates me and it hurts to know that someone you used
to be so close with can treat you like such a nobody.
- It gets on my nerves when I see or hear about
teenagers, especially those who are under age, who do nothing but party on
the weekends and get drunk and high. When I was in high school, the thought
of drinking or doing drugs never even crossed my mind because I had better
things to do with my time and I hung out with the right crowd. These kids
don't consider the danger and risks their putting their lives in by giving
up all control of their bodies and becoming completely wasted.
- I work as a cashier at a retail store and on a daily
basis I have customers who get mad at me because I ask to see their ID if
the back of their debit or credit card isn't signed. It's a company policy
and I'm supposed to ask, otherwise I'll get in trouble if I don't. I had a
guy cuss me out the other day for asking and it just ruined the rest of my
day. Some customers can just be so rude and obnoxious with some of the
things they do or say. I could go on all day about my pet peeves as a
cashier.
- I can't stand when people assume I'm going to be a
police officer when I say I'm majoring in criminal justice. Then they tell
me I'm too small and petite and could never be a cop before they even ask what I
really want to do as a career. There's so much more you can do with a criminal justice degree than just be a cop!
- I can't stand how much technology has taken over our lives. Don't get me wrong it can be very useful and handy sometimes which I am very thankful, but other times it's just unnecessary. It irritates me so much when I'm out on a date and the other person is glued into their phone. It makes me feel like I'm boring or not good enough to have their full attention, just put your phone down! It can wait until after dinner, whatever it is. Trust me guys, girls are going to get upset if you stare into your phone the entire date so don't do it! Social media is another big factor that can really ruin relationships. It's amazing to learn just how much things have changed in this era compared to what it used to be.
Hey Ashley,
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain on the one about the guy cursing you out. Over the summer I worked at Walmart and I had customer yell at me for telling him to have a nice day. I wouldn't think anything of it because some people are already pissed about something and they feel the need to take it out on others. So keep your head up high and God Bless!
Ashley,
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to many of the points that you ranted on. I have customers where I work getting furious at me because the lines are too long or they don't like how the business is ran. I easily brush it off but it seems extremely childish to yell, swear, and even sometimes threaten employees who have no control over how the business is ran.
I agree on everyone of your rants! The two that get me the most are working with customers who just step all over you and how technology has ruled this world. I find it so irritating when one of my friends or anyone who I am hanging out with is on their phones 247! My one friend would always be on her phone talking to her boyfriend and when I was talking to her about anything she'd be staring at her phone then look up and ask me to repeat myself... talk about annoying! She also would Skype her boyfriend for 8 hours...8 actual hours with her boyfriend ignoring every word I said. She also always is texting at the movie theaters! I agree though technology is really making an impact on society and is making younger generations worse, by not teaching them how to really communicate with others and be social rather than staying at home looking at some kind of screen.
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more with your second rant. I went to a catholic high school that drug tested their students. Everyone was always complaining about how stupid it was or how scared they were because they didn't want to be kicked out or they didn't want their parents to find out. This was the most ridiculous concept for me to grasp. How hard is it to not smoke...? Obviously the school has these rules set in stone, and you know the consequences, yet you're putting your education at risk for something so stupid? Oh, okay. A rumor started that my school was going to start alcohol testing (yes, I guess that is a thing) because another catholic school from the area was starting to alcohol test their students after hearing about their outrageous partying problem on the weekends. They ended up opting out because of the costs for the tests. What sickened me the most was how "cool" the kids in my class thought they sounded when they were telling everyone they were nervous or scared to get drug tested because they just smoked that past weekend. I just wanted to say back to them, "No one cares, you're screwing up your own life. Stop trying to sound cool because you sound like an idiot." So so so SO annoying!
ReplyDeleteAshley,
ReplyDeleteThis was a great post! I like that you gave multiple rant options, LOL.
The one that struck me the most was your rant about being a cashier. I was a cashier at McDonald's in high school and I am a receptionist now. I am constantly dealing with mean, jerky people. I got yelled at last week and it really ruined my day, so I feel your pain!
I could rant about this all day too. I just don't understand why people think because you're behind a counter/desk they can talk down to you. I really think how people treat others in the service industry is a good judge of their character.
So, what's your opinion as to why people treat others in the service industry like crap? I think it's because people feel a sense of entitlement these days, no matter what it is in regards to. What do you think is the reason you personally end up bearing the brunt of people's ignorance? I think people walk into a place looking for someone to make a mistake. They're already assuming you're incompetent before you even work with them.
I basically picked to focus on your cashier reference rant because I can totally relate to it, so I definitely agree with everything you said, no disagreements there. If you were going to do research on this topic, you could how unruly customers affect the morale of the workplace. It might be possible if you take a person who has just been employed and is excited and hasn't yet been exposed to the work place, versus someone who has been working there for 10 years. You did a good job ranting because it wasn't like you were shoving beliefs down people's throats but it wasn't boring at all, I enjoyed reading it.
I rant about this problem ALL THE TIME. Only to family, friends and my co-workers, they are quite the stories. But I have never done a formal rant on this topic.
If I had been anonymous, maybe I would have used more not nice words about rude customers :) haha
I agree with several of your rants. I can relate you the dealing with customers one. It's very hard to keep your cool when you have a stranger going off at you for a dumb reason and not being able to do much about it. That's one of the main reasons I quit retail. Working at a daycare center isn't that much different though some parents go off for no reason too. I also agree with the teenager one because some of m cousins are heading in that path and I don't know how to help them they don't realize that that is a bad thing and nothing good is going to come out from that.
